First Meeting of HSBI WG: Full Annotated Agenda

  • 1. Opening of Meeting

    The Chair of the Voluntary HSBI Regional Guides Intersessional Process, David Power (Australia) will open the meeting and invite the meeting to confirm the draft agenda (Circular 2025/07 Att 1).

  • 2. Introduction and Opening Remarks

    Participants in the HSBI-WG01 will be invited to provide briefly provide opening remarks.

  • 3. Discuss Framework for the List of HSBI Tools

    The Chair of the Voluntary HSBI Regional Guides Intersessional Process will introduce the framework document, which was prepared to provide the intersessional process with a base point for collecting and determining information for the set of HSBI guides.  

    Participants in the virtual meeting will be invited to provide feedback and comments on a draft HSBI guide framework document (see Circular 2025/07 Att 2). 

  • 4. HSBI Tools Presentations

    Participants in the HSBI-WG01 virtual meeting will have the opportunity to present on a topic of interest from the below list of HSBI tools:

    i. DNA testing (including benefits, recommended procedures for sampling and processing to an evidentiary standard),
    ii. weight estimation,
    iii. calibration certificates for measuring tools
    iv. measurement of tori lines,
    v. measurement of weighted branch lines,
    vi. collection of photographs and video evidence (including file type recommendations, and capturing actions of inspectors such as measurements and DNA sampling),
    vii. recommendations for dissemination of photographic and video evidence consisting of many, or large files that cannot be sent via email, and
    viii. update the Standardized Multi-language Questionnaire 

    The initial list of presentations as of 3 March 2025 are:

    1. Australia: DNA testing in HSBI 
    2. New Zealand: Logbook quantification and catch estimation, inspection of tori lines
    3. Canada: Photography and Video Evidence
    4. France OT: Weight estimation and measuring tool calibration
    5. Other presenters (to be confirmed)
    6. Secretariat: Introduction to current version of Standardized Multi-language Questionnaire (latest version is 6 February 2009)
       
  • 5. Programme of Work and Next Meeting

    The Chair will lead a discussion on next steps and planned 2025 programme of work.
